PDP To Reappraise Its Loss In Ondo Governorship Poll — Oyinlola

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)?said on Tuesday that it would reappraise its operations to determine why it lost the just concluded Ondo state governorship election.

The National Secretary, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, stated this in Abuja while briefing newsmen, adding that the party would work to ascertain??“ where it missed it’’.

He stressed that the party would continue to work hard to convince the people of Ondo and other states why it was the better choice to ensure good governance.

Oyinlola debunked insinuations that the party had lost control of its members following lawmaker`s opposition to President Goodluck Jonathan on the $75 crude oil benchmark when he presented the 2013 budget to the National Assembly.

Meanwhile, he?described the alliance talk by opposition parties in preparation for the 2015 general elections as a gang up that would not succeed.

He said that ganging up was an indication of certain weaknesses and inability to stand alone as opposition parties to win elections.

“We are not threatened by what we will call ganging up. Ganging up has never succeeded and it will not succeed.”

“Ganging up is an indication of certain weaknesses. Why can’t a party stand on its own and contest election if it is sure it will be acceptable by the people,’’ Oyinlola said.

He said the party would not be distracted by such alliance talk but would remain focused on delivering democracy dividends to the people.

Oyinlola said that what was most necessary to the party was to?endear it to the people as it continued to earn their trust.

He said that the PDP was not at cross purposes over the outcome of the Ondo governorship elections which was won by the Labour Party (LP).

He added that congratulating Gov. Olusegun Mimiko for emerging winner of the election was a civilised thing to do at the moment.

He, however, said that the party might eventually do otherwise depending on information it would get from its election observers.

According to him, the party`s leadership is still awaiting detailed feedback from its election observers.

Oyinlola added that the party was working on modalities to address internal crisis that was at present rocking some of its state chapters.

“It is an open secret but that is our own internal affairs and we are going about resolving it by dialoguing over the issues,” he said.

He said that the party was working to bring cordiality between its members in the South-western states and the country generally.

He added that the party`s National Working Committee (NWC) had planned a reconciliation team for South-west and other zones in the country.

?“Any moment from now these teams will move out to reconcile the warring factions and settle differences so that we can all come back together as members of the same family.

“Were it not the differences we had in Ogun we would have won that state, were it not the differences between the Akala led side and Ladoja going to Accord, we would have won Oyo state.

“These are the problems we want to get the team to go and resolve.

“They will soon move out and we hope that before long we will be able to reconcile all the warring faction within the PDP family,” Oyinlola said. (NAN)
