Mr Mohammed Abubakar, the Inspector General of Police, on Wednesday in Abuja assured Nigerians that the police would do everything within its power to ensure peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The statement directed all zonal AIGs and commissioners to make sure that vulnerable points in each city were well guarded and controlled.
“All zonal AIGs and state command commissioners of police have been commanded to take adequate measures to ensure the provision of water-tight security across the country before, during and after the celebration.
“All places of worship, recreation centres, resorts and other public places will be? adequately and effectively protected to enable worshippers and the general public to enjoy maximum fulfillment,’’ it said.
The statement said that highway patrol teams had been directed to ensure constant patrol on the highways for crime and accident prevention.
“Policemen deployed on our highways have also been directed to render necessary assistance to travellers and road users, especially accident victims and those who might have suffered vehicle break down,’’ it said.
The statement gave the assurance that the police would work round the clock to make sure that Nigerians had a wonderful celebration.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 as public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
