The Estu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, has asked Nigerian leaders to use the celebration of Eid-el-Kabir to promote unity and progress in the country above personal interest.
The monarch, who addressed his people after the Eid prayers yesterday in Bida, charged the country’s leaders to give up all that is needed for the nation to be at peace.
Abubakar said: “We should learn from Prophet Ibrahim, who was to sacrifice his only son. Our leaders should learn to sacrifice for the good and improved standard of living of the people.”
According to him, they can only do that by upholding the trust that was given to them by the people and fulfil their campaign promises to the people.
He also urged the people to participate in government activities such as the national immunisation and sanitation schemes to improve on their health as well as promote girl-child education.
To the youths, the monarch charged them to be peaceful and embrace self-employment instead of seeking for white-collar jobs.
Among top functionaries at the Eid prayers led by the Acting Chief Imam of Bida, Alhaji Ndagi Umar, was former Governor of Niger State, Alhaji Abdulkadir Kure.
Also in his Sallah message, the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, admonished village heads in the emirate to monitor strangers in their areas.
He said when the people are suspicious of? strangers after checking their background, such people should be reported to security agents in order not to allow unknown persons to cause security breach in their domain.
