Akwa Ibom Deputy Governor Nsima Ekere on Wednesday resigned his position, a statement said in Uyo.?
The statement, issued by the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr Inem Ina, said Ekere resigned on personal grounds.
It said Ekere? expressed gratitude to Gov. Godswill Akpabio and the people of the state for the opportunity given to him to serve in the capacity for 17 months.
“Mr Ekere wished the governor and the people well in the remaining years of the administration,” the statement added.
Ekere, who hails from Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, contested? the PDP Governorship Primary Election in 2007 and lost to Akpabio, who later chose him as running-mate.
Ekere was, however, replaced with Mr Patrick Ekpotu as Akpabio’s running-mate in the 2007election.
Ekere was the Chairman of the Board of Akwa Ibom Investment Promotion Council and? Chairman of Ibom Independent Power Plant? within the period between 2007 and 2011.
After the 2011 general elections, Akpabio chose Ekere as his deputy.
Ekere is a wealthy estate valuer and management consultant believed to be in the governorship election in 2015. (NAN)
