The Minister of State for Defence, Mrs Olusola Obada, on Thursday in Abuja signed a Performance Contract Agreement? with the permanent secretary, service chiefs and directors in the ministry.
Speaking at the ceremony, Obada said the signing of the agreement was in line with President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive that ministers should sign the contract with top officials of their various ministries.
She said the agreement was the president’s quest for sustainable development and achieving the transformation agenda.
“This according to Mr President is not a punitive measure but a means to ensure that viable performance targets are set and achieved,’’ she said.
She said the agreement would also contribute immensely to the achievement of the Vision 20:2020.
Obada said that to understand and sign performance contract agreement for the three remaining stages, the ministry, through its relevant departments, organised a retreat for the directors, service chiefs, heads of parastatals and agencies.
Responding on behalf of the others, Prof. Nicholas Damachi, the Permanent Secretary, thanked the President for his visionary leadership and for introducing the innovative.
Damachi expressed the hope that the signing of the agreement would strongly facilitate the objective of the transformation agenda.
“It is hoped that with this new paradigm, we shall be prepared to do our best,’’ he said.?
