Rivers Spends N800m On Flood, Says Commissioner

The Rivers Government said on Thursday in Port Harcourt that it spent nearly N800 million on flood-related issues in the state.

The Rivers Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

She said that the money was used to cater for indigenes affected by flood at different camps across the state.

The state government had opened 30 camps in four local government areas affected by flooding from Orashi river.

?“As we speak, 30 camps opened across the local governments have been impacted.

“The governor of Rivers state was there on three different occasions. The deputy governor of Rivers state is the chairman of the flood relief committee and is in that area on an almost daily basis.

“The commissioner for special duties is there every day of the week, ensuring that relief efforts are appropriately handled; ensuring that people get the relief materials.

“The government of Rivers state has spent, as at the last count, about N800 million on the matter of flood, dealing with both the people in the camps, providing them food and there is more than enough food in the camps.”

?Semenitari said government would ensure that indigenes affected by flood were catered for until the water recedes.
