Former Niger State Governor Engr Abdulkadir Kure has urged his party members to imbibe the virtue of patience, justice and fairness in the way they play politics in order for the party to enjoy more goodwill from the people.
Kure, in an interactive some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executives between 1999 and 2007 in his residence at GRA, Minna, yesterday, stated that when there were those virtues in the party, the social contract between the people and the party could grow stronger.
He said that when there was no Justice and fairness in any organization, there was that tendency that the fortunes of that organization could nose-dive and it would lose the confidence of the people.
According to him, in ensuring Justice and fairness leaders elected and appointed must act in accordance with the dictates of their various religion, same for followers.
“If we are not just we will be going backward, I will not look for something by cheating somebody; you cannot be unjust and unfair to attract people to the party” he said.
He said that leaders should not equate themselves with God by unnecessarily using power, saying that “politics is not for one person some people will be in your party and some will go for other parties but what is important is how fair you are to the people.
“There was a time during my tenure that we won 24 out of 25 in local government election in the state and ANPP won one, and still some party members believe we should use our influence and go to court to collect the one seat, I said no, but today that same chairman is a member of the PDP because we were just to him,” he recalled.
Kure therefore urged all his party members to be patient as patience was a virtue that was most needed to be able to do justice and be fair to all.
The interactive session was led by the former chairman of the party, Umar Farouk, with representatives from all the local government areas of the state.
