The National Economic Council (NEC) yesterday set up a stakeholders’ committee to examine the deplorable state of education at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels.
Briefing State House correspondents yesterday at the end of NEC meeting presided over by Vice President Namadi Sambo, Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, alongside his Borno, Edo and Kogi counterparts, said the committee chaired by the Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, had two governors from each of the geopolitical zones in the country as members.
According to him, the North West zone would be represented by both the governors of Kwara and Benue state while the South East would be represented by the governors of Anambra and Imo. South South representatives in the committee are the governors of Cross River and Akwa Ibom while the Governors of Oyo and Ondo would represent South West.
Bauchi and Adamawa State governors are to represent the North East while North West would be represented by the governors Kaduna and Sokoto states.
Other members of the committee are representatives of the National Assembly, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu and Hon Jerry Alagbaoso, and those from Ministries of Education, FCT and Finance, UBEC and TETF.
