Niger State government has approved vehicle loan worth N435.5 million for top government officials in the state from a commercial bank.
The state Commissioner of Planning in the state, Alhaji Ndako Idris, disclosed this yesterday at Government House, Minna, at a news conference after the state executive council meeting.
He said that the beneficiaries of the loan were 21 commissioners, 39 permanent secretaries as well as special advisers and chairmen of local government service and civil service commissions.
The commissioner said that the approval of the loan was sequel to complaint by the said officials of their inability to discharge their duties because of lack of functional vehicles, noting that since the government could not buy the vehicles because of the monetisation policy, it decided to guarantee loans for them.
Ndako said that 67 vehicles would be purchased and each would cost N6.5 million.
He disclosed that the terms of the loan were subsidised and would be fully repaid within three years that the loan was advanced.?
