Akwa Ibom Gets Female Deputy Governor

Members of the AkwaIbomState House of Assembly at their plenary session yesterday, confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Valerie Ebe, as the state’s new deputy governor.

GovernorGodswillAkpabio’s letter requesting the House to confirm the nominee in accordance with Section 191 (3) of the 1999 Constitution) as amended, was read by Mr.ManduUmoren, the Clerk of the House.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) saidEbe’s nomination as deputy governor followed last Wednesday’s resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Mr.NsimaEkere.

The Leader of the House, Mr.OkpolupumEtte, moved a motion that the governor’s letter be accepted and was seconded by Mr.AniekanAkpan.

Thereafter, Ebe was called into the chamber, screened and unanimously confirmed as the deputy governor.

In his remarks, the Speaker, Mr Samuel Ikon, said, “Ebe is qualified for the office of the deputy governor in terms of experience and qualification.??

Ebe, a widow, hails from MkpatEnim local government area in AkwaIbom South senatorial district.

She was a former member of the state executive council from 2007-2010.

Ebe was the Legal Adviser of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state and a former Commissioner for Ethical, Attitudinal and Reorientation. (NAN)
