The opposition Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has described as untrue and deceptive, reports suggesting that its presidential candidate in the last general elections, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari will mediate in the proposed parley between the federal government and the dreaded sect.
Reacting to newspaper reports, national chairman of the party, Prince Tony Momoh said that nobody had invited General Buhari to such a talk.
“I want to inform you that right now nobody has formally invited Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to be? part of the mediation between the Boko Haram sect and the federal government.? We only heard of it in the media. So the question on whether he would agree to be part of the mediation does not arise for now.
“Let me also tell you that there is no past leader in Nigeria, including Gen. Buhari who does not yearn for peace in the country. As you are aware, the general has always campaigned for peace in the country, so he is always ready to be part of whatever will bring peace to the country. He has always emphasised that those who are involved in the Boko Haram activities should be dealt with.
