House of Representatives committee on sports has vowed to unravel the corruption allegations rocking Nigerian football. To this end, it said it will summon Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the National Sports Commission (NSC) for questioning over allegations put forward by the immediate past president of the NFF, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi who revealed his board left a whopping sum of N2.8 billion in both NFF local accounts and the offshore account with world soccer governing body (FIFA). Lulu also said he left N224m which was an aid from FIFA for the construction of NFF Headquarter at the time of his impeached from office. Chairman of the committee, Hon Geoffrey Gaiya told LEADERSHIP SPORTS weekend that Lulu’s allegations will not be left uninvestigated. He said the revelations by the former NFF boss are timely and will enable his committee to know the whereabouts of the unaccounted monies both within the NFF and other agencies of government mentioned in the reports. “These are quite interesting revelations from such top citizen like Sani Lulu who was one time president of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). He is in the position to know how much was approved and released to NFF. NFF also seem to get their money from several sources. They get money from FIFA, CAF, government, sponsors and some time from the Presidential Task Force (PTF).
“It is good that this revelation is coming now. We will have to interact with all the agencies we oversee. Our duty is not just to seat here and keep approving money for people without asking questions about how previous monies given to them were used. We are going to invite the NFF, and every other person mentioned in this matter to come and explain to us what they know about this monies. We will also invite Sani Lulu to come and substantiate his allegations and provide us more information that will assist us get to the bottom of this entire corruption allegation flying around,” he said.
Lulu early this year claimed that before he vacated office, he left a total of N2.8 billion in NFF coffers.
