A 40-year-old man, Ige Lawal, was on Tuesday charged before a Somolu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos,?over?the alleged theft of a Mercedes Benz V-boot saloon car and cash??amounting to?N298, 000.
Lawal, who resides at No. 2, Odusanya St.,?Bariga, is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinlebi Adegoke, told the court that Lawal had on Aug. 10 at 10.00 p.m. dispossessed one Mrs Olabisi Bodunrin of her car and N298, 000 cash.
According to him, the accused allegedly accosted Bodunrin at C.M.S Grammar School, Igbo-Igunnu, Bariga, and forcefully collected the vehicle valued at N200, 000.
“He forcefully collected N200, 000 from Bodunrin and another N98, 000 from an occupant of the car identified as Justina Eyitayo.
“Lawal had already escaped with the car before he was apprehended by some residents of Bariga and handed away to the police,’’ Adegoke said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 279 and 285 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted him bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case to Nov. 28. for mention. (NAN)
