“I’m not supposed to be campaigning,” Biden joked aloud.
Speaking with reporters after leaving the polling station, Biden was asked if the vote was an emotional moment, coming 40 years after he first ran for Senate.
“I tell you what, you know, every time I do it — this is the 8th time that I've run statewide in the state of Delaware. It's always a kick, it really is, to see people out here,” said Biden.?“I hope everybody exercises their right to vote. It's a great honor. And people who are standing in line in a lot of places, I encourage you to stand in line as long as you have to.”
President Obama voted early in October in his home state Illinois.
Later Tuesday morning, Biden's son, Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden (D) tweeted that he voted for his father and President Obama.
