Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, has accused the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), in Plateau State? of plotting? to cripple? his administration? with prolonged strikes? over the implementation of the national minimum wage. The government has agreed to pay 55 per cent of? the wage.
Jang? who stated this on Wednesday at Jishe Government lodge? while receiving the report of an 11 member Elders Negotiation Committee set up by the Plateau State stakeholders to look into? the problem of national minimum wage? implementation at local government councils in the state , noted that? to pay the 100 per cent minimum wage? as put forward by the state NULGE to over 45,000 staff? of the local government councils in the state, the state needs? N3.2 billion monthly for salary? payment alone.
According to Jang, monthly subvention to the 17 Local government councils in the state as at today, stands at N1.7 billion, wondering? why?? the labour officials? have failed to give listening ears to? the counsel of the Elders Committee to suspend the strike action.
