Indications emerged yesterday that the leadership of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state has concluded arrangements to appoint a new speaker, following the forceful resignation of the erstwhile speaker, Mr. David Iorhemba over alleged financial misconduct.
This was the outcome of a meeting held by the leaders of the party, presided over by the state chairman, Dr.Agbo Emmanuel, who, according to sources, convened the parley on the order of Governor Gabriel Suswam.
The meeting was conveyed on the heels of the deputy governor’s denial of involvement in a violence that erupted in the House of Assembly on Thursday, describing the incident as hostile and intolerable. He insisted that his presence at the Assembly complex at the time of the crisis was to intervene in the crisis.
Lawani whose reaction was contained in a press statement signed by his chief press secretary, Mr.EjembiOgwuche further urged the youths to desist from all forms of hostility and hooliganism in order to allow the legislators discharge their duties peacefully.
However, at the PDP stakeholders meeting held in Makurdi yesterday, the state chairman of the ruling party, Agbo Emmanuel, informed that there was anurgent need for the party to pick a candidate to occupy the seat of the speakerbefore the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) lawmakers take over.
