Niger Releases N110m For TIN Project

The Niger State Government has approved the release of the sum of N110 million as counterpart fund for the commencement of the Tax Identification Number (TIN) project in the next fiscal year.

The Governor, Dr Mu’azu Bbangida Aliyu represented by the state Commissioner of Finance Alhaji Mohammed Mu’azu Bawa stated this at the weekend in a workshop for North Central Zone which comprises of Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kogi and Kwara states on the TIN project.

He said that the approval for the release was to show the state government’s commitment to the TIN project as a way of checking leakages in tax administration in the country.

The Governor expressed optimism that one of the key avenues to attain the developmental vision of any government was through effective tax collection and administration.

He also said that there was great hope for effective collection of taxes in Nigeria with the introduction of the TIN project.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Joint Tax Board, Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, said that the TIN project was essentially meant to provide a platform for all categories of taxpayers in Nigeria through electronic registration.

He explained that a card? that would bear a number for the tax payers,? individuals and corporate bodies would be issued and said that the Electronic registration has started in six pilot states of Abia, Bauchi, Delta, Jigawa, Oyo and Kwara states representing one state each from the geopolitical zones of the country.
