Kano State government has approved N30m for its contingent at the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Lagos. The state council has concluded plans to storm Lagos with a contingent of 200.
The sports council has concluded all strategies aimed at ensuring that the state improves from its 11th position in the last festival to perform creditably at this year’s games tagged: “EKO 2012.”
He said all hands must be on deck to ensure that the state surpasses the feat recorded at the last edition in Port Harcourt and be among the best ten at the end of the festival.
The state’s director of sports, Alhaji Sulaiman stated that any sport that excels at the games will enjoy more support from the government as it will underline the strength of the state.
He said the state government is committed to its promise of rewarding excellence and good performance that was made to the athletes as a demonstration to reward medalists.
The director said that the state will compete in 13 events which include volleyball, handball, weightlifting, judo, wrestling, kick-boxing, boxing athletics among others.
He said that already, the athletes are receiving vigorous training at the Ado Bayero Square, Kano Pillars and Sani Abacha Stadia, as well as Bayero University, Kano (BUK).
