Unknown gunmen on Saturday night in Kano killed Assemblyman Ibrahim Garko, a lawmaker representing Garko constituency in state House of Assembly.
The suspected gunmen reportedly injured two other persons during the attack.
An eyewitness, who spoke to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Sunday on condition of anonymity, said that the incident occurred around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The eyewitness said that the lawmaker was tracked down by two gunmen riding on a motorcycle at his meeting point at Unguwa Uku in the Kano metropolis.
NAN leant that the lawmaker was in the company of some friends when the two gunmen opened fire on them.
When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, confirmed the incident.
“It is true that the incident happened and the lawmaker was killed,’’ he said.
Reacting to the killing, a member of the state Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Ririwai, described the deceased as a very hardworking legislator.
Ririwai, who represents Doguwa constituency in the House, also described the late Garko as “very honest and trustworthy person’’.
