The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Police Command has arraigned a 41 year old housewife, Mrs Comfort Amos, before a chief magistrate court in Zone 6, Wuse, Abuja for abducting a nine months old baby at Redeemed Christian Church of God (Central Parish).
According to the Police charge, Comfort had, under the pretence of trying to assist the mother of the baby boy on September 23, 2012, requested to lap the baby inside the church. She disappeared with the baby when the mother of got up to give her offering in the church.
The police said the accused person moved the baby to Benin city? and conspired with one Tunde Iyohmahon to demand for N500 million before the baby boy could be released to Mr and Mrs Obafemi Timothy Taiwo (the boy’s parents).? Iyohmahon is standing trial with Comfort before the magistrate court.
The police further alleged that the accused persons were arrested with the abducted child in Benin city on September 28, 2012 during the course of their investigations.
The arrest, the police said, followed payment of N2 million, by the baby? parents, into the Diamond Bank account number Comfort provided for collection of the ransom.
The Police First Information Report (FIR) reads in part, ‘’that on September 23, one Obafemi Timothy Taiwo came to Utako police station and reported that you, Comfort Amos, criminally abducted a baby boy of about 9 months old by name Olowatonitoba David Obafemi? belonging to the complainant at Redeemed Christian Church of God (Central Parish), Wuse, Abuja.? You moved the said baby to Benin city and conspired with Tunde Iyohmahon and demanded for the sum of N500 million as ransom before the said baby will be released to his parents.
‘’Meanwhile, on September 28, during the course of police? investigation , both of you were arrested in Benin and the said baby was recovered alive, while the sum of N2m has already been paid into the account number 0025608143 in the Diamond Bank belonging to Comfort Amos but not yet withdrawn.
‘’You thereby committed joint act and abduction contrary to section 79 and 272 of the penal code.
