Elder statesman, and the pioneer Chief Commissioner of the Public Complaints Commission, Alhaji Maitama Sule has reiterated his belief in the future of Nigeria, saying he is optimistic that the nation will rise again.
Maitama Sule said this while giving the keynote address at the Public Complaints Commission, FCT, one ?a seminar on “The Role of Public Complaints Commission in a Democratic Nigeria” yesterday at the Merit House Auditorium, Abuja, that no matter how he may have painted the nation in time past, he still believed that the nation would overcome its challenges.
He urged Nigerians at all levels to work hard in order to realise the potential greatness of the country even as he called for a cultural revolution and the reinstitution of justice and fair play, as justice brings peace.
“I have been painting the pictures black but I remain optimistic; I have not lost hope in Nigeria. I believe we will overcome. Whatever may be the shortcoming or weaknesses of the President Goodluck Jonathan, I pity him, I don’t envy him, because Nigeria is a very difficult country to rule. Whoever rules Nigeria should rather be pitied than envied; indeed Nigeria is like a sealed veil, as you fold one sleeve the other sleeve unfolds itself.
“So all Nigerians, whatever their callings – political inclination, religion or tribe – should pray for the leadership of the country. If you pray and they do good, we will enjoy, but if they do bad, we are all to suffer. I am not saying that they are doing everything perfectly because perfection is an attribute of God, we all have our weaknesses,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said the President was working on presenting a Bill that would revolutionise the administration of criminal justice in the country.
Okupe said the bill which would review the over 50 year-old criminal justice administration in the country would constitute the basis of major transformation of the criminal justice system and would ensure that the system of administration of criminal justice promotes speedy dispensation of justice, protection of the society from crime, and remove the frustration of Nigerians who seem to wait in vain to see justice meted out to offenders.
