Some residents of Bauchi metropolis have appealed to the Federal Government to intervene in the high price of petrol in the state.
They told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi that a litre of petrol had risen to N120 at filling stations from the official price of N97.
They said that the product was even sold for N140 per litre two weeks earlier.
Malam Mohammed Ibrahim, a civil servant, told NAN that the pump price at filling stations should be addressed.
Ibrahim said that government should ensure equitable distribution of petrol nationwide.
He said that the recent drop in the price would give slight financial relief to motorists and urged commercial vehicle operators to reflect the drop in their fares.
Abdullahi Lamidi, a taxi driver, said he was pleased with the recent drop in the price, but said that marketers should bring more relief by selling at N97 per litre.
He said that taxi drivers would not increase their fares arbitrarily if a litre was being sold at the official price.
A staff of one of the filling stations, who pleaded for anonymity, told NAN that the price would drop whenever marketers received supplies from the depot in Gombe
He said that supplies to the state were mostly from independent marketers in Kano.
He said that supplies were not coming from the depot in Gombe and that the price would be high until they received supplies from Gombe.
