Recently, a University don made public presentation of his 14 fiction and non- fiction works. CHIKA OKEKE writes that the erudite author garnered much commendation from literary icons as well as the Arewa consultative Forum (ACF), at the launch of the books in Abuja recently.
The 14 books include The Village Tradesman, The Butcher’s Wife, The Death of Eternity, The Lone Piper and the Bird’s Case, Hope in Anarchy and The Unknown Vulture among others were launched with the support of Arewa consultative Forum (ACF).?
The books which are already making serious waves in the industry were written by an Associate Professor of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Dr. Adamu Kyuka Usman and published in Nigeria.
Usman A Role Model For Youths- VP Sambo
The Vice president of Nigeria, Arch. Namadi Sambo who described the author as a role model for the youths noted that the author was not deterred by the socio- political challenges in the country but remained steadfast and worked tirelessly in producing his 14 books.
“I am very delighted at the launching of 14 books written by Dr. Usman. These books by a university teacher of law testify to the major conceptualities of hardwork, diligence and creativity. His works remind us that with determination, we can achieve whatever goals that we set for ourselves. I salute him for the sacrifices that he had made by writing these books and I salute him for making it possible for all of us to share in the pleasures of these books.
“I’m particularly impressed that rather than being discouraged by the socio-political challenges around us, he has chosen to be a voice of hope for the generation and I am happy to say that Dr. Usman is a role model for our youths.
The VP who was represented by the former SG of Kano state, Mallam Abuba Gabos, enjoined the youths to imbibe the virtues of hardwork and innovativeness, saying that Nigeria was blessed with abundant human resources as well as human talents that would uplift the image of the country.
“Our youths must imbibe the virtue of hardwork and innovativeness because the significance of these books lies not just in the stories they tell and the moral values but most importantly, in the lessons which we teach about creativity, commitment and progressive management of time.?
According to him, “We must encourage them to develop talents entrusted in them for their own advancement and the good of the society because our dear country is blessed with abundant human resources and human talents. We shall collectively build ourselves and the future of the count
“We must continue to endeavour to transform our varied professions into great opportunities and prosperity of the country. The support of ACF testifies to the recognition of the message of hope which the book carries.
I Envy His Energy- Gen. Buhari
On his part, the Former Military President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari described the author as one who displayed tenacity for hardwork, stressing that his books have strong economic and cultural background.
He said: “The author displayed tenacity and hard work by producing 14 books. I envy him for his energy and capacity because the books have very strong economic and cultural background.
Also, the former Minister of FCT, Mallam Nasir El- Rufai congratulated the author for turning out quality books, saying that he had been struggling to write a book for 4 years.
‘Books Cut Across Socio-Economic, Political And Cultural’
Also speaking, the books reviewer, Prof. J. S. Aliyu disclosed that the books cut across the socio-cultural, economic and political aspects of life, adding that many have been selected as compulsory reading materials at the universities.
“The books cut across socio-cultural and socio-economic and socio-political background. Most of the characters stood their feet and carried out their daily chores. Some of them have been selected as compulsory reading materials for general studies programmes at several universities. The author favours the faction genre which is the combination of facts and fiction.
He continued, “The most outstanding things are that no matter the theme, there is an imaginative variation in the settings. The author combines dialogue, vocabulary and selection in his writings which stand him apart from other authors.
“When reading the books, the reader finds it difficult to separate facts from fiction because what represents strength in a novel is the level of creativity and that is why you cannot distinguish the best or worst authors. He handles many themes and sub themes that helped the reader to connect with the author very well.
Dying Reading Habit Connected With Consumer Virus- Author
The author of the book, Dr. Adamu kyuka Usman frowned at the dying reading culture in Nigeria? which he said is connected with consumer virus and stressed that people are no longer interested in reading books but constant usage of expensive gadgets.
