The ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has warned local government chairmen in the state against owing workers salaries.
The party which controls 15 of the 16 local government areas in the state, said that, “in line with the earlier directive of the state governor, Alh. AbdulFatah Ahmed, no local government chairman in the state should owe his/her workers salaries under any guise”.
It expressed delight that all arrears of salaries hitherto owed workers by the councils have been fully paid through the intervention of Governor Ahmed.
The party, which hailed Ahmed’s decision to intervene in the clearing of salary arrears owed council workers in the state, assured the workers that, “there will not be any delay in the payment of salaries again as promised by the governor”.
The PDP in a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Alhaji Mas’ud Adebimpe said, “We are reiterating our earlier position on service delivery to Kwarans, the civil servants and local government workers in particular.
“As at today, Kwara has paid local government workers salaries up till date, including the November salary. We commend Governor AbdulFatah Ahmed for this rare feat and for being a role model.
“What this singular act has demonstrated is that the PDP led government in the state is being run on the principles of transparency, honesty and sincerity of purpose”.
It however urged the local government workers to reciprocate the government’s kind gesture by re-dedicating themselves to duty and continue to support government’s programmes and policies, “so that together we can take the state to greater height”.
