Niger State government has awarded a N791.9 million contract for street lighting in the ongoing beautification of Minna , the state capital through the western bypass.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructural Development, Engineer Abubakar Jibreel, who signed the contract yesterday on behalf of the state government with Kenol Nigeria Ltd, stated that the work was expected to be completed within 30 days.
He explained that the street lighting would start from Chanchaga area of the state capital and terminate at the airport junction at Maikunkele in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner stated that though the contract was awarded earlier to another company, the state government revoked the contract and decided to ward it to Kenol because of their track record of delivering quality work as exemplified by their work earlier on the eastern by pass of the state capital to Maikunkele.
The commissioner advised the contractors? to do a good job for the people of the state adding that government will not hesitate to take punitive measures against erring contractors.
Also speaking, the Executive Chairman of the State Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Alhaji Usman Tinau Mohammed said that before a contract would be awarded in the state, it must have passed through due diligence process and therefore urged the contractors not to renege in the agreement.
The representative of Kenol, the contradicting firm, Olowe Olawale, promised that the firm will not betray the confidence reposed on it.
