The Committee on Peace, Security, Reconciliation and Healing, set up by the Northern States Governors Forum (NSGF), has been granted another extension of three months. This is to enable them complete their work, which they failed to complete after the 90 days deadline.
LEDAERSHIP WEEKEND had reported that the committee was divided into various committees, with the mandate to bring lasting peace to the North, a region that has been confronted with several security challenges.
The committee, which is made up of prominent religious and traditional rulers, as well as technocrats from the North, was inaugurated in August 26, 2012, with a charge to submit their report on November 26.
Coordinator of the committee’s secretariat and chief of staff to the Government House, Minna, Professor Mohammed Yahaya Kuta, told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND in an interview that the Forum granted the extension based on the request.
He said the committee had written for an extension, a request the NSGF approved so as to enable it (the committee) do a thorough work.
According to him, going by the new arrangement, the committee is expected to submit their report in February, 2013.
