A building allegedly housing a bomb factory in Zaria, Kaduna State was yesterday demolished by the joint military and police task force that stormed the area on a tip off.
This comes barely a week after the twin explosions at St. Andrew Military Protestant Church in Jaji Military cantonment area of the state.
The combined team of the Nigerian Army, the Police and operatives of the State Security Services (SSS) had after a tip off, raided Zaria city and discovered a two-bedroom bungalow of a bomb-making factory with a ready to use Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs). In addition, the soldiers also arrested one 60-year-old man, Umaru Mohammed, within the premises.
Briefing journalists after the raid, the Army’s Assistant Director of Public Relations, 1 Division, Col. Sani Kukasheka Usman, said the raids took place between the hours of 1:30 am and 8 am.
According to him, 17 sensor mechanical timers, 11 primed suicide bombers vest, 36 primed IEDs in ‘Bobo’ cans and one military kitbag with support items like saw, hammers, cello- tape and gums were discovered during the raid.
He added that two gallons of paint containing prepared IEDs, two galloons of Turkey oil brand with prepared IEDs, seven rolls of wires of various lengths, one bag containing several sensors and 25 volt batteries were all discovered inside the house.
He further stated that both the suspects and the items recovered are under custody.
