The General Manager, Games Services at the on-going 18th National Sports Festival, Brig.Gen Emmanuel Okaro (Rtd.) yesterday announced the disqualification of the Ondo State Female Hockey team for fraudulent practices. The Ondo State team was found to have altered the accreditation card for two female hockey players by imposing pictures of other persons other than the registered athletes.
According to Gen. Okaro all matches played by the Ondo State Female Hockey team have now been awarded to their opponents. He further cautioned other participating states that his Committee had the means to detect fraudulent practices that would be punished according to the rules governing the tournament. In view of this, he advised Supervisory Officers to ensure that fraudulent acts are shunned.
Speaking during a courtesy call to the Games Services section of the Games, Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, commended organisers for a job well done.? He said he was impressed with what he had seen on his tour of the various Games Centres he visited.? He said he was sure it is only the federal government that would have successfully funded the enormous cost of a National Sports Festival.? Also yesterday, Fatimah Bello a table tennis player was disqualified from the games for dual registration.? Fatimah who was registered with Team Lagos was also discovered to have been registered with the Delta State team from where she was collecting salaries for the past one year.
