The Kebbi Government would spend N76.7 million on the construction of three earth dams to promote livestock development?and agricultural activities in rural communities.
Alhaji Magaji Bunza, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday that the dams would be cited in Bagudo, Bunza and Jega Local Government Areas.
He said the dams were expected to serve as additional sources of water supply to dry season farmers as well as pastorals and livestock producers, saying, “this would also promote self reliance and economic development.”
He said the project was expected to be completed within four months, adding that, “water pumping machines would also be supplied to dry season farmers at affordable prices.”
Bunza said for the past five years, 12 earth dams had been providing water to rural communities to promote agriculture,?livestock production and?employment generation.
He called on benefiting communities to support government's policies and programmes which were designed to uplift their living conditions.?
“The construction of the earth dams would be closely monitored so that quality was not compromised,” he added. (NAN)
