Once again, Nigerians have been assured of the completion of the dualisation work on the 250km Abuja-Abaji-Lokoja Expressway which contract was initiated in 2009.
The Minister of Works, Mike Onolememen, accompanied by some senior officials of the ministry, gave this assurance during an inspection tour of the four sections of the road awarded to different contractors.
The minister who noted that the road was one of the major corridors for the movement of people, goods and services, in and out of the Federal Capital Territory, maintained that the road would be completed by the first quarter of 2014.
While noting with satisfaction the pace of work by Dantata and Sawoe Construction Co. Limited at section I of the expressway starting from Zuba to Sheda Village Junction, with interception from Giri Village Junction to Airport Link Road Junction, Onolememen stated that the road which has attained 46 per cent physical completion would be opened for motorists during the yuletide period to avoid the usual traffic gridlock.?
At the 47.20 per cent completed section II road starting from Sheda Village Junction – Abaji awarded to Reynolds Construction Company (Nig) Ltd and the 15.50 per cent of the 49.362km completed section III road from Abaji – Koton Karfi awarded to Bulletin Construction Co. Ltd, as well as the 19.430 per cent completed Section IV, from Kotonkarfi – Lokoja? awarded to Gitto Contruzioni Generali Ltd, the minister noted the overall percentage completion which is up to 125km will be opened for motorists by December 15, 2012.
