General Officer Commanding ,GOC, 3 Armoured Division, Jos, Major General Jack Nwogbo has advised the troops to be deployed to Liberia on peace keeping mission to defend themselves when the need arises.
He gave the advice in his address at the graduation ceremony of the pre-deployment training of the troop at the Nigerian Army Peace Keeping Centre (NAPKC), Jaji Kaduna.
About 700 officers and men of the Nigerian Army are to be deployed on peacekeeping mission to Liberia.
According to the GOC, the troop must comply with the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL)’s rules of engagement and force protection measures.
“You must fight back when the need arises, remembering that, the rules of engagement are not to restrict you, but to offer guidance in the use of application of force” he stated.
Represented by the commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Armoured, Bauchi, Brigadier General, Junaid S. Bindawa, the GOC expressed confidence in the troop, noting that, having received qualitative training at the centre, their performance at the mission area must be of highest standards.
He however commended the Commandant of NAPKC, Major General John S. Zaruwa and his staff for their steadfast approach to robust training in Peace Support Operations (PSOs) and provision of quality peacekeepers for PSOs.
