Nigerians living in the U.S on Saturday? urged President Barack Obama and the U. S Congress to step up measures? towards curbing the rising wave of? violence in the country.
The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation-Americas (NIDOA) made the call in a condolence message to families of the 20 children and six adults killed in an elementary school in Connecticut, U.S. on Friday.
Details released by U. S security agencies revealed that the massacred children were all aged six or seven, while the adults were women.
“It is time for a frank and de-politicised discussion of this crucial issue. We believe that enough is enough and that the time for action is now.
“To this effect, we call on all Nigerians in this country to please call their members of congress and the White House to ask them to take action now.
“Our hearts are still very heavy and we are still very deeply saddened by this senseless and completely unprovoked attack on this elementary school, during which 20 innocent children and six staff members lost their lives.
“We have been, and we shall continue to lift up each of the victim’s families in our prayers, as we ask the Almighty God to grant them the fortitude to cope with these unexplainable losses,’’ NIDOA added.
They, however, prayed for eternal peace for the souls of the innocent victims.
The group also thanked the first responders and law enforcement agencies that helped to mitigate the impact of the incident.
