The Ministry of Power will be restructured after the conclusion of the sale of the successor companies of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), Minister of State for Power, Zainab Kuchi, has said.
She disclosed this while speaking at the fifth power summit in Lagos yesterday, where she stated that Nigeria is likely going to witness a restructured Federal Ministry of Power by next year.
She explained that? the essences of the restructuring is to deal with the new and inevitable challenges in a manner that will place the ministry on a better focused and better defined direction.
Speaking on the theme: “Strategies towards consolidating sustainable power supply in a privatised industry, Kuchi noted that by 2013, “the industry is expected to be more private sector- driven, especially as we hope to witness the commissioning of many Independent Power Projects ( IPP) projects.”
She also used the occasion to solicit for the cooperation of local and international development partners, in ensuring sustainability of supply along the electricity value chain.
On her part, the Permanent Secretary, in the ministry of power, Dr. Dere Awosika, noted that the ministry has successfully resolved PHCN labour crisis and attained a new height of 5,500MW power generation.
