Delta State government yesterday said it had uncovered over 6,000 ghost teachers in its primary schools as a result of the continued bio-metric verification of its workforce.
Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. Patrick Muoboghare, told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that the 6,000 fake workers were uncovered via exclusive workers’ audit verification, adding that 16,000 teachers were “practically” in classroom in payroll of government as at November 2012, showing that a total of 22,123 teaching staff were employed by the state government.
Muoboghare said the ministry had stopped the transfer of teachers so as to separate existing and non-existing ones in the classroom, adding that the ministry was at present working on modalities of such inefficient teachers.
