Mr Andrew Okparugwu, the Head, Engineering Unit, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abakaliki, has described the fire incident that gutted part of the station ?as unfortunate.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the fire outbreak which occurred late Saturday, y razed the studio and the Master Control Room.
?Okparugwu told NAN in Abakaliki on Sunday that equipment worth millions of naira were ?destroyed by the inferno.
“This fire incident was unfortunate as it had colossal impact on the station.
“The cause of the fire cannot be immediately ascertained as no live was lost and no injury to staff reported during the incident,” he said.
Mr Simon Nkpuma, the state Chief Fire Officer, said that his officers rose to the challenge to ?put out the fire.
“Though, we were not informed on time about the incident, we still ensured that it was put out to prevent further damage.
“I urge individuals and organisations in the state to be more safety conscious, especially this dry season, to avert fire outbreaks in the state.
“Those who would be traveling for the yuletide should ensure they switch off all home appliances while the practice of bush burning should be discouraged,” he said. (NAN)
