Victor Obinna Nsofor has explained that moving to Eastern Europe may have hurt his chance of making Nigeria’s Afcon provisional squad.
The Nigerian striker joined Russian Premier League club, Lokomotiv Moscow from Inter Milan in June 2011 but now feels the move may have cost him a place in Stephen Keshi’s team to the Africa Cup of Nations.
“Players in the English league as well as the Spanish league always do have the advantage, even the Italian league as well. Why do I say this? Every fan back here (in Nigeria) follows those leagues because they are on TV every week unlike other leagues. So it’s easier to know who is doing well in England and Spain as well as Italy unlike in Russia.
“May be if I play my football in these leagues I would have had the opportunity to be called up. But since I’m not in the team I can only pray and wish them a great outing in South Africa,” said the 25-year-old striker.
Nsofor last played for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in September 2011 in an Afcon qualifying against Madagascar.
