The Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang has launched the Armed Forces Remembrance? and Emblem Week in Jos and? called on the nation to improve the welfare of the ex-service men and the families of the fallen heroes.
Jang who launched the 2013 Armed Forces Remembrance and Emblem Appeal fund with the sum of N10million, said that “the painful reality confronting some of our ex-service men and families of our fallen heroes is such that even their entitlements are sometimes not forthcoming or they are subjected to very dehumanising conditions in the pursuit of their rightful earnings.”
He further stated that Nigerian armed forces should be appreciated for the roles they played and are still playing in bringing honour to the country and keeping the country together especially during the “heady beginnings of journey to nation hood.”
Governor Jang while appreciating the role of the Armed Forces, Police, State Security Service and other security agencies? in restoring peace to Plateau State said that “the greatest service we can do to the past heroes is to ensure that the unity and stability of this nation remains solid.”
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Barrister Olivia Dazyem? said that donations for last year was used to empower widows of fallen heroes adding that the Ministry intends to channel this year’s donations to support the education of the children of fallen heroes.
“The resources don’t go in vain, we use them for what they are meant for,” she further stressed.
She also solicited for more funds from members of the public to assist the families of the fallen heroes in the state.
