Minna, Niger State capital, has been listed by the world urban forum as one of the three towns in Nigeria that are among the world most liveable cities, the State Commissioner of Land and Housing, Dr Peter Sarki, has said.
The commissioner, who stated this yesterday at Government House, Minna, said the cheering news of the status of the state capital was conveyed to the state at the last executive council meeting.
He said that the status of the state capital was sequel to the attendance of the state delegation to the forum’s conference in Singapore last year after the government showed interest for Minna to be listed in an earlier conference in Brazil.
He said that, in Africa, only? Durban in South Africa, Lagos, Abuja and Minna have the privilege to be so listed.
Dr Sarki said some of the indicators bordered on availability of certain infrastructure in education, water, health and general security as well as the prospect of other developmental strides that could make the city liveable.
He said that the assessment of Minna before it was listed into the world liveable cities started as far back as 2008 when the state government showed an interest for the listing.
The commissioner said that the benefits from the listing are that the state would be attractive to prospective investors and would propel the government to do more for the transformation of the city.
