The presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2011 presidential election, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, on Thursday expressed optimistic that merger talks among opposition parties in Nigeria would succeed and dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the centre.
Mallam Shekarau, a former governor of Kano State the assurance at the Southwest meeting of the National Rebuilding, Inter-party Committee on Merger Plans of the party in Ibadan, disclosed that the three leading opposition parties – Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and the ANPP have gone half way in their agreements in view of the high level of commitment they have been showing on the merger plans.
Shekarau, who is leading the ANPP committee in merger talks with other parties, pointed out that the merger move was not about just dislodging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
