The electricity workers’ union under the aegis of National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC) have said that they would not accept the takeover of any PHCN facility by the investors without proper implementation of the agreement made by federal government.
Government, they said,? must fulfill the agreement reached with workers before moving ahead with the privatisation programme.
The unions disclosed this while calling on their members to remain focused in their quest to ensure that? government’s efforts at ensuring consistent power supply in the country? was fully actualised.
Speaking to newsmen on workers’ readiness to ensure that there was constant power for Nigerians, the NUEE’s General-Secretary, Comrade Joe Ajaero, stated that federal government’s determination to push ahead with the privatisation programme to meet up with the time-table as well as deadline set for the ongoing power sector reforms would be demonstrated through the speedy and faithful implementation of the agreements reached with the unions.
?“While the workers await the implementation of the agreement reached with the government, they cannot be distracted by tension created by those mounting pressure against the agreement government has signed,” he? said.
Also, the SSAEAC’s President General, Comrade Bede Opara, while urging workers in the power sector to remain determined to ensure constant power supply to Nigerians, warned detractors in the power sector mounting pressure against government’s implementation of agreement to steer clear, or face the wrath of the workers.
