Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram sect shot dead two policemen in the early hours of yesterday at Unguwa uku, along Yan-awaki market in Tarauni LGA of Kano State.
Elsewhere, tension gripped residents of? Riyom, and Jos South LGA? of Plateau State yesterday? following the killing of four? people by unknown gunmen said to be in military? uniform at Fang village of Riyom LGA? of the state.
An eyewitness told LEADERSHIP that at about 7:30am, some unidentified gunmen opened fire on the police patrol vehicle as some of the policemen were disembarking from the vehicle at their duty post.
He said that the gunmen were at the place long before the policemen arrived and had taken the advantage to ambush them.
Our source confirmed that police vehicles numbering about ten arrived at the scene shortly afer and made some arrest as well as carted away with some goods belonging to one food seller, Hajiya Habiba Yar Ghana.
When our reporter arrived at the scene hours after the incidence, he discovered that the busy street of Yan-awaki and the populace yan-awaki market were deserted; some shops were left open, while someroad side traders run leaving their goods behind.
Kano state Police Public Relation Office, ASP Magaji Musa Majiyaavowed the incidence, saying some unknown gunmen on a moving vehicle shot dead two policemen on patrol at Unguwa uku, Yan awaki road.
ASP Majiya said that team of policemen was dispersed searching for the perpetrators.
LEADERSHIP investigation revealed that the attackers opened fire on a bus conveying the deceased and killed four instantly at abaut 5.30 pm while two other people sustained serious wound and are receiving treatment at the Vom Christian Hospital in Jos South local government council of the state.
Member representing Riyom constituency at the Plateau State House of Assembly and Majority leader of the House Hon. Daniel Dem while confirming the death of the four people to LEADERSHIP in Jos yesterday said there were shot dead around 5.30 pm in a vehicle going to Fang village in Riyom local government council.
The lawmaker condemned the killings saying it was barbaric and unacceptable at this time that the state is experiencing total peace.
The lawmaker? gave the names of those killed to include, Markus Davou driver of the bus, Gyang Pius, Yohanna Bature and Monday Kentong, while Samuel Umaru and Keneng Pius sustain injuries and were being treated at the Vom Christian hospital.
