The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano state said on Wednesday that it seized 4,107.59 kilogrammes of hard drugs in 2012.
Mr Garba Ahmadu, the state NDLEA Commander, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.
Ahmadu said that Cannabis sativa or Indian hemp topped the seizure with 3,645.86kg, psychotropic substances 461.67kg, Heroine 20.2 grammes and Cocaine 335 grammes.
According to him, the command also arrested 692 suspects in connection with various drug-related offences within the period under review.
The commander explained that the command had secured the conviction of 206 people for drug offences at the Federal High Court, Kano.
Ahmadu said 466 people, including those brought in by parents, received counselling at the command’s rehabilitation centre in Kano.
He restated the commitment of the command to end illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
“The command is not relenting in its resolve to continue with the fight against illicit drugs in the society,’’ he said.
He called on all stakeholders in the state to continue to support the agency in the anti-drug crusade to achieve the desired objective.
