The House of Representatives has described reports of impeachment plot against the speaker, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as a plot hatched by elements under investigation by the House for corrupt activities to cause distraction in the House.
This is just as the legislators, at the first plenary session after resumption from the Christmas break yesterday, passed an overwhelming vote of confidence on the speaker.
Reacting to the report, the speaker who described the report as unfortunate, also attributed it to external forces and urged his colleagues to ignore it.
“I read the publication at about 3am and felt bad, not because of my name as speaker, but because I know that the 360 members of this House have worked tirelessly in a transparent manner to ensure that the House of Representatives continues to represent the interest of the Nigerian people.
“It is unfortunate that this has happened and the most is that names were not mentioned.
