Hajiya Maijidda Waziri, widow of the slain member of the Gombe State House of Assembly, Abdulhameed Waziri, yesterday disclosed that her late husband received a threat letter in an envelope containing a GSM number and three bullets.
She said her husband, who was killed on Wednesday night in his residence by gunmen, tried to reach the user of the phone number but got no response before he was killed.
Hajiya Waziri told LEADERSHIP WEEKEND that the matter was promptly reported to the police, after which the lawmaker left the matter in the hands of God.
Until his death, Waziri was the minority leader of the state House of Assembly on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC). He represented Kwami-West.
Hon. Waziri was attacked by six gunmen who came to his house on motorcycles. Three of them stood at the entrance of the house while others entered the house and shot him at 8.30pm at Jauro-Kuna, opposite the Gombe State University in the metropolis.
An eyewitness noted that one of the daughters of the deceased, who was with her father when the gunmen struck, received gunshot injuries and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe.
The lawmaker was buried on Thursday.
