The new project of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), will address duplication of biometrics by different government agencies in Nigeria, its Director-General, Mr Chris Onyemenam has said.
Onyemenam said on Sunday at the forum of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, that multiplicity of identification had been a major challenge facing the commission.
He said that such challenge would be overcome when the commission put in place its identity database.
“Right now, you cannot stop the Nigeria Immigration Service from issuing international passport because that is its statutory responsibility.
“However, Nigeria Immigration Service needs to know the identity of the person that it wants to issue an international passport to and that is our responsibility.
“And so now, they have makeshift arrangements but very soon those makeshift arrangements will be a thing of the past and ditto for other aspects of inspection that we have talked about.‘’
