Gov. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State on Tuesday announced approval for the release of N5.5 million for 11 internally displaced communities in the state.
The governor made the announcement at Basa in the Kokona Local Government Area of the state when he addressed a crowd of returnee displaced persons, following the sectarian crises in the area.
Al-Makura accompanied the more than 2,000 internally displaced indigenes of Basa to their homes after a spate of communal crises between the Eggons and Fulani herdsmen.
The governor said that the gesture was to provide relief for the affected persons to enable them resettle, adding that the welfare of the citizens of the state was his priority.
The sum of N500,000 was approved for each of the 11 communities where dozens of lives were lost and property worth millions of naira destroyed during the crises.
The affected communities include Basa, Yelwa, Angur-Jigawa, Sarkoto and Taba-Loko.
Others are Akore, Angwan-kwanu, Angwan- mailafia, Ruwan-Doma and Angwan-waje.
