The Kwara Government has warned people living on? Unity road and ?Amilegbe area of Ilorin against dumping refuse inside Asa River.
Mr Tunji Morounfoye, the ?Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, gave the warning? in a statement ?issued in ?Ilorin on Wednesday.
The commissioner urged residents of Ilorin to cultivate a ?positive attitude toward waste management so as to check water-borne diseases.
While expressing disgust ?at the indiscriminate manner people dispose off their refuse in Ilorin, Morounfoye warned that ?government would not hesitate to sanction erring residents.
Morounfoye also said he had served a quit notice ?to traders near the Unity bridge to check ?indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the area.
He said government would ?set up an enforcement team to check indiscriminate dumping of wastes under? bridges in Ilorin, adding that those caught would be prosecuted.
The commissioner also said? government had ?concluded arrangements ?to provide roadside bins near bridges in the capital. ?(NAN)
