The Kwara State Government has said that it will not condone cultism in all its tertiary institutions.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, Alhaji Aliyu Lade, made this known on Friday when he paid an unscheduled visit to Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
He said he came to investigate a media report on the alleged disturbance by rival cult members.
The commissioner told the Rector, Malam Mas’ud Elelu that government has decided to fight cultism.
According to Lade, the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Technology is ready to collaborate with the polytechnic to wage war against cultism.
He warned students of tertiary institutions against indiscipline, saying students found to belong to any illegal society or club would be dealt with.
The commissioner urged the students to study hard and finish their courses in good grades.
Lade expressed the belief that the lazy students foment trouble when examinations are approaching so that the schools are closed down.
Earlier, the Rector expressed shock that a report carried in a newspaper said that some cultists killed a fellow student on Matriculation Day.
He denied the report as no iota of truth was contained in the said report. (NAN)
