The leadership of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of working against the Presidential aspiration of Major General Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
In a telephone interview with LEADERHIP, yesterday, the National Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said that the PDP was out to frustrate the emergence of the new political party being promoted by major opposition parties.
A national daily had reported that the leadership of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), one of the partners in the merger arrangement, has set up a high powered committee to meet with Buhari to persuade him not to contest the presidency in 2015.
The paper had even reported that the National Leader of ACN, Senator Bola Tinubu opted to make the move as a means of making Buhari appreciate the fact that such decision, though a sacrifice was needed for the consummation of the merger.
An allegation, which Fashakin in the telephone denied in strong terms saying, “To the best of my knowledge, nobody has met with General Buhari on the issue of the desirability or otherwise of him dropping his ambition.”
According him, such discussion has never come up for consideration, whether privately or in formal interaction among the various committees representing the various parties, and said that such suggestion was a machination of the ruling PDP.
