The apex northern socio-cultural organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has urged the Federal Government to pay compensation to victims of violence in the north.
The forum stated this, yesterday, while reacting to a Federal High Court judgment which ordered the federal government to pay N37.6b compensation to the people of Odi community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State over the invasion of their community by armed soldiers during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo.
ACF in statement by its spokesman, Anthony Sani said, “The federal and state governments should also compensate other communities like Zak-ibiam in Benue State as well as in Borno and Plateau States which suffered similar fate.
“We also have cases of communal violence arising from failure of the state to secure the lives and properties of the citizens.
“Such cases have been recorded in Plateau, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Nasarawa and Kwara states. They all deserve some form of compensation because they suffered some losses,” the statement read.
